Company History
Associated Floors was founded in 1921 in Brooklyn, NY, by the grandfathers of today’s owners, Frank Rosenberg and Richard Goodman. From a humble storefront Associated has evolved into a national multi-location flooring specialist.
Associated Floors pioneered single source accountability for national retail store chains and has covered over 180,000 stores and multi-location sites since its inception! No other flooring company in America today can claim that accomplishment.
In 1922, Mr. Ward Melville asked the founders to “linoleum” his shoe stores, one in Brooklyn, the other in Chicago. Those shoe stores were then known as Thom McAn. Thom McAn, and their competitor Kinney Shoes, were the largest national retail shoe chain outlets in America from the 1920’s through the 1990’s and Associated was affiliated with both of them for over 90 and 70 years respectively.
Associated has grown, developing the only time-tested centralized single point of contact system for furnishing and installing floor coverings to America’s premier national retail chain store and national accounts clientele. Our internal systems and customized technology allow us to operate within this very unique segment and our clients often realize a cost-savings or product upgrade resulting from our consolidated purchasing power and standing in the marketplace.
From our humble beginning flooring retail stores that were a mere 1,000 SF, to today’s mega-stores of 200,000 SF or larger, we understand the commitment made by the generations before us, and we stand committed to upholding that tradition.
Management Team
Frank Rosenberg
Chairman
Frank Rosenberg is the grandson of Edward Hoffman, one of the two co-founders of Associated. Frank joined Associated in 1973, after owning a restaurant and understanding the role of management and dealing with people. Within a short time he made his mark and quickly rose to become President, overseeing a dramatic increase in sales and new clients. Frank assumed his current role as Chairman in 1994. Throughout his career Frank has felt strongly and been very proactive about meeting new clients on a personal basis. He has a deep understanding of what clients are looking for when choosing a flooring vendor and has always built strong and lasting relationships with many of the Associated client base. You can often find Frank on a golf course or entertaining friends and clients with humorous anecdotes. Frank has three sons who are the light of his life.
Richard Goodman
COO & President
Richard Goodman is the grandson of Murray Nizen, the other co-founder of Associated. Rich graduated from the prestigious Stuyvesant High School in NYC and later Boston University in 1981. After several successful years in medical sales, he joined Associated in 1985 and learned the business from the ground up becoming Vice-President. During his 28-year tenure he has overseen over 75,000 projects in the retail, hospitality, and corporate markets. Richard was also responsible for expanding the products offering from carpet (which resulted in the name change from Associated Carpet Corp.) to all flooring categories in the mid 90’s. He has been President since 1994. Rich is involved in the day-to-day workings of the company and oversees all proposals and RFPS for new business as well as project development and sourcing. He has two grown sons and in his spare time he enjoys cooking and creating new dishes.
Bob Odgis
Director of Operations
Bob was born and bred in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Brooklyn College with a BS in Accounting. For over 30 years he has been a part of the Associated “family” overseeing all of the ongoing major projects and estimating materials for just about every job that Associated handles. Bob is an avid bicyclist and cross-country skier. He enjoys playing guitar with his son and has been taking guitar lessons, favoring classic rock.
